"SMELL" DIRECTED OLFACTORY EXPERIENCE
By Irati Herrero, ME MI MO LAB (olfactory experiences laboratory
23/06/22 19 horas.
Irati Herrero from ME MI MO LAB proposes to start a conversation about the concept of extinction from the nose and in the context of the exhibition The Year Without a Summer by the artists Elena Urucatu and Carlos Maté.

What the workshop is all about?

We will learn to smell as perfumers do: to recognize notes and distinguish subtleties between aromas that seem to be the same but are not. We will become aware of our own sense of smell and enjoy the pleasure of the invisible. We will develop olfactory memory taking as reference the elements and concepts that are addressed in the exhibition "A year without a summer": extinction, monstrosity, climate change, etc.

At the end of the workshop, the attendees will take with them a scented scum with the smells of the exhibition "The year without a summer".

What will we talk about?

The talk that will focus on transmitting to the attendees notions about olfaction, smells and their language is a proposal to break the hegemony of the visual over the rest of the senses to recognize our environment and enjoy art. We will break with the idea of art as painting or sculpture to invite the participants to know, enjoy, recognize and interpret their surroundings from the nose.
