Lucie Geffré
Bordeaux, 1976
“I seek to capture the intensity of a presence, be it in people, animals or objects. Painting that instant that becomes strange interests me. Mi work explores the tension between presence and absence, between the abstract and figurative, between beauty and the unsettling. I prefer suggesting to describing, leaving space for the observer’s interpretation”.
If there is one thing that characterizes Lucie’s work is the subtlety of shapes. Her strokes draw figures that may seem unfinished or incomplete, and that sense is where their beauty shines.
Human faces, animal figures and common objects are the protagonists of scenes or landscapes that, though in the background, gain great importance and meaning. In this way, the artist creates a game of tensions and contrasts between the abstract and the figurative.
The solitude of figures and the abstraction of the backgrounds accentuate their intense and disquieting presence, managing to portray that which is not seen but felt. The treatment she gives to colors along with the subtlety of details and the gravity andexpressiveness that the protagonists transmit determine her work’s originality.
